Higher Education | Pepperdine University Events

Having the chance to photograph for Pepperdine University was a pleasure. The Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business and Management enjoyed a celebration of MBA graduates and a finance workshop, and I was happy to be able to be present as a "fly on the wall" to capture it all!

The graduate dinner was held at the beautiful Marina Del Rey Hotel with its stunning atmosphere and breathtaking sunset view. The workshop took place on the beautiful Malibu campus overlooking picturesque landscape and the Pacific Ocean.

Here, some snapshots from the events...

Transition to 2017

This year, the transition into the new year seems...different. As we reflect on the year, and years prior, how are we going to make sure that 2017 and beyond are the best years yet? I'm curious, goals and resolutions aside, what are the things you will build into your lifestyle, your habits, your heart, that will sustain throughout the year...throughout your lifetime?

Behind the Lens | Kendra's Photography Faves

“One of my favorite things about photography is getting to share some of the obscure things I observe in everyday life, with others. One of my favorite times for documenting that is when I am able to capture people in a way that shows them a side of themselves they may not normally realize exists. Showing someone their inner beauty shining through on the outside? It’s priceless...” - Kendra

Confrontation...

Confrontation. Sunday reflection of a recent Sunday reflection... Sometimes you come upon unexpected surprises. It's what you do with them that determines the outcome. Published! Kendra's Cover & Inside Oct/Nov Photo Spread

Kendra photographed the COVER and inside spread for the October/November issue of The Gourmet Retailer magazine! A collaborative effort, Kendra shot the images inside the gourmet retailer Surfas Culinary District, based in Culver City, California, alongside fellow journalist Natalie Hammer Noblitt. From the foods to the warm and welcoming staff, from the owners to the cookware, it had to be one of the most mouth-watering assignments to date!

First timer...

When my childhood friend visited Los Angeles for the first time, we did a couple of impromptu photo shoots. Based on the photos and their 1,000 words, I would say she enjoyed herself! We had a great time running around town and the SoCal backdrop certainly offered the perfect environment for gorgeous images! Here are some of my faves...

Filling in the gaps

Photographing a wedding can get chaotic - the schedules, the non-schedules, the impromptu meetings, the misplaced props, and so much more - especially when it’s a destination wedding. I thrive on the impromptu and love to capture the candid, and shooting a destination wedding in Puerto Rico last year awarded that opportunity. While capturing the structured and planned definitely has its place, I love filling in the gaps. There are times in between the shots you should get when the money shots are waiting. They tell the story’s sidebar. They give the bigger picture (no pun intended). They are the glue that holds it all together. Capturing these three from the bridal party post-wedding, quickly became one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. During a few minutes of down time, while the plans for the reception were being discussed, the flower girls and ring bearer leaned on a table and gazed out at the ocean; no direction, no posing, no instructions. The kids were so playful and active before and after this photo was taken, giving us more reason to believe that the emotions and meaning behind the wedding ceremony were setting in. Penny for their thoughts…

Essence Magazine celebrates Black Women in Hollywood today with an honoree luncheon. I have had the honor, over the last several years, to be in the presence of such inspiring and talented people, and to cover the event for Essence Magazine.
