Kendra photographed the COVER and inside spread for the October/November issue of The Gourmet Retailer magazine! A collaborative effort, Kendra shot the images inside the gourmet retailer Surfas Culinary District, based in Culver City, California, alongside fellow journalist Natalie Hammer Noblitt. From the foods to the warm and welcoming staff, from the owners to the cookware, it had to be one of the most mouth-watering assignments to date!
When I first met Shoshanna and Kara, it was apparent, the puzzle pieces Shoshanna referred to. To learn more about what it is I am referring to, check out the latest installment of In My Own Words, below!

It's a big day in DC today! I wanted to be there for the opening, especially after standing in front of it this summer while it was still being prepped for the official opening. Here, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. July 2016.

When my childhood friend visited Los Angeles for the first time, we did a couple of impromptu photo shoots. Based on the photos and their 1,000 words, I would say she enjoyed herself! We had a great time running around town and the SoCal backdrop certainly offered the perfect environment for gorgeous images! Here are some of my faves...

This summer I met a great man and he spoke many volumes without saying a word. This photo was taken only after first taking in all that the moment presented, represented and cemented.

One of the most emotional interviews for my Anita Claire Project was when I featured my family friends, Pat, Kerri and their four generations of mothers and daughters. It hit closest to home because they were a gift of extended family my mother gave to me because of the close friendship she shared with Pat, years before I was even born. This episode of In My Own Words addresses just how special it was.

I snapped this photo in 2009 moments before shaking President Obama's hand. He was at an event in Los Angeles and upon taking the stage, he jumped down to approach the crowd and to greet his audience.
Happy 55th Birthday to our President!

One of the most thrilling things to witness is when a client is working to make the world a better place. I am excited to announce the first of several videos I had the opportunity to shoot, direct and edit for Michelle Andrea Smith's Inaugural Pembroke Taparelli Arts and Film Festival which will showcase films highlighting social justice issues.
You can find out more about the film festival, how to submit, support, get involved and how to donate to help her movement, on her website, here.
In the meantime, Michelle explains the festival below:

When I met Julie and Seena, little did I know that it would have been one of those hit-close-to-home moments. It actually became one of the many I had with my Anita Claire Project.
Find out why, below:

Yesterday I attended an event that was focused on the idea and efforts of making a social change through storytelling. I attended, one, because of my interest in the topic, and two because I believed that my Anita Claire Project fell into that category. Once I arrived and saw that the various stories were about making a positive change on the environment, on different communities, and other specific social injustices, I started to think about how my project, which honors and explores the unique bond between mothers and daughters, could be considered having a social impact in the same way? After thinking about it and talking to one of my new friends at the event, I realized that yes, my project delivers its own unique social impact. Not only does it pack a punch in the name that is in the title of the project - The Anita Claire Project - my mother was a strong advocate for social change and worked in the field of social issues for many years, the simple fact that mothers and daughters share a bond and talking about it helps them, inspires others and helps to celebrate, ameliorate and heal the relationships we have with the special mother figures in our lives.
These thoughts took me back to when I was interviewed (virtually) by a blogger who asked me to answer several questions on camera. She wanted me to explain the why behind the project, among other things. It was an emotionally difficult interview to get through, but I knew it was important to talk about. You can view the video below:

When I first met Film Composer Ghiya Rushidat, it was as though I were meeting an old friend. After only a few minutes of conversation, it seemed we have experienced similar events in our lives, including seeking comfort and inspiration in our creative interests. As an emerging film composer, Ghiya is working on several film scores and while we discussed the details of her upcoming photo shoot, we agreed that while it would be important to illustrate her props and other means to creating her music, it was equally important to highlight and focus on who Ghiya is as a person. I wanted to make sure to capture the essence that is Ghiya. Who is Ghiya? Why does the music she creates come out of her? What is her story? I truly believe we accomplished that mission. Joyful yet pensive, silly yet serious... All of the above, and then some. Here, I share some of those moments with you.
